About Worship at Harvest
Why do we sing during our gatherings?
We sing because God has told us to sing as a natural expression of our adoration for Him! God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:24). What better way to do that than through songs of praise? There are over 400 instances of singing in Scripture and 50 where we are commanded to sing to the Lord. Here are just a few: Psalm 96:1-2; Psalm 149:1-2; Colossians 3:16; Matthew 26:30; Revelation 5:10.
What is our culture of expression in worship?
At Harvest, we want you to feel free to raise your hands, weep, rejoice, clap, repent, be silent, kneel, shout, or whatever is an appropriate response to Jesus. Our aim is to respond naturally to the glory of God. In your personal expression of worship during our services, we hope you can humbly express adoration to God while building up others around you. Here is a list of a few verses that refer to expression in worship: Psalm 47:1; Psalm 16:9; Ephesians 5:19; Psalm 95:6; Psalm 134:2; Psalm 33:1; Revelation 15:2; Revelation 19:4; Psalm 149:3; Psalm 22:23; Exodus 12:27; Job 1:20; Psalm 47:1; Romans 12:1; Philippians 1:20.
How should I participate when the church is singing?
Worship is all that we are responding to all that God is (Matthew 22:37). Before services, consider praying and reading Scripture in private worship. During our Sunday gatherings, we hope that you worship God with all your being (Psalm 16:9). Engage with each element of the service. Sing loudly from a genuine heart. Listen and respond to the preaching of God's Word. Feel free to express your unashamed adoration of Christ. If it's your first time in church, we want you to feel welcome to participate or observe as you are comfortable.
What if I don't like to or can't sing?
No matter how you participate, what is most important is lifting high the name of Jesus and loving others in the process. "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!" (Psalm 100:2). If you sing off key, sing and sing loudly for the Lord! If you can't physically participate in singing, express praise to God however you can! Worship is all that we are responding to all that God is (Matthew 22:37). Singing is not the only way to do that.
What kind of music is there?
Our services have contemporary & energetic worship, led by a live band. Most people stand during this time, however, there is complete freedom to be seated if you prefer. The words of all of the songs are projected onto a screen at the front of the sanctuary. Our hope is that you will encounter Jesus through the message of the songs and that you will be able to effectively express your heart to Him through singing.
