EXPECTATIONS FOR LEADERS

As you serve as a Small Group Leader at Harvest Buffalo, knowing your role will help you manage expectations and evaluate how you are doing. This will empower you to fulfill the role of Small Group Leader with confidence along with giving you guidance for when you need to say “no” to something outside your role.

COMMIT TO THE MINISTRY

To be a Small Group Leader, we expect you to be a member at Harvest Bible Chapel Buffalo and have previously participated as a member of a Small Group before taking on the role of leader.

You should be committed to the purposes, values, and leadership of Harvest. Given that Small Group Leaders are leaders in the church, we hope they will serve as needed under the leadership of the Elders of Harvest Buffalo.

BE AN INTENTIONAL LEADER

As a Small Group Leader, you should commit to doing the work of a disciple-maker by leading meaningful discussions, exhorting members to grow in the Lord and in obedience to His Word, encouraging mutual ministry between group members, providing biblical counsel, and fulfilling the ministry responsibilities entrusted to them.

We expect you to be accountable to the group concerning your personal and spiritual goals. And of course, we expect that you will hold the group accountable concerning their personal and spiritual goals.

BUILD A RELATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Building a relational environment is a vital part of all Small Groups. We expect you to create a safe place for each member to share with no judgments attached and maintain confidentiality of the personal information that is shared within the small group.

Small Group Leaders are on the front lines of helping to solve conflicts with small group members. You should commit to avoiding gossip and instead, initiate conversations with those involved in the conflict and report to Harvest staff and Harvest elders all for the purpose of resolving the presenting issues to avoid sin and practice righteousness.

DISCIPLE & MULTIPLY

Multiplying the small group by discerning, developing, and deploying an apprentice is the responsibility of all Small Group Leaders. Healthy things multiply. To help fulfill the mission of making disciples, you should commit to helping group members embrace new members and develop an apprentice for multiplication.

We expect you to partner with your coach by informing up, sharing prayer requests, letting leadership know how your group is doing, attending Small Group Leader events, and tracking attendance. If something beyond your experience surfaces, reach out to your coach for guidance and help.
